for additional information: |
The definition of a Direct Cable Connection is almost identical
to the
definition of an
Incoming Modem connection:

From the Dial-Up
Connection window, select to "Make New Connection" to start the Network Connection Wizard" |
![]() |
Select to "Accept Incoming connections" |
![]() |
Select your connection via: a Parallel cable on the Printer port |
![]() |
Or : select your connection via a COM-port using a serial NULL-modem cable For a serial connection, check quickly the Properties of the COM-port connection |
![]() |
The "port Speed" should be set already to 115200 (make sure, that the connecting system is configured for the same speed !) |
![]() |
Select, whether to allow "Virtual Private Connections (VPN)", which is usually only activated when connecting via a WAN or via the Internet. |

Like NT4,
Users must be defined (in User Manager) and you need to give them the permission to use the incoming connection. |
![]() |
By default, the connection will use TCP/IP protocol (which is the default for Windows 2000 networking) and permission (within their user permissions) to access data on the disk (File and Printer Sharing). |

Direct cable connection works best with NetBEUI protocol, please add that by clicking on the button "Install", selecting "Protocols" and then "NetBEUI". If you like just to connect 2 systems and there is no need for an Internet connection, you should "Uninstall" (or at least un-check) TCP/IP protocol. If you keep the TCP/IP protocol, should verify the TCP/IP configuration by first selecting it (single click) and then selecting "Properties" |

For the DCC connection, the system will need an IP-address. If there is a DHCP-server on the network, then there is no need to change the default settings. If you have an Internet connection defined, you can activate ICS (Internet Connection Sharing), which includes a DHCP-server, which will then assign an IP-address for your DCC-host. |

Without a DHCP-server : The system will need at least 2 IP-addresses: - 1 for your modem accepting the incoming connection - 1 for calling modem By default, automatic IP address assignment via DHCP is selected. If you do not have a DHCP- server on your network, then define yourself a range of IP-addresses. |

Done ! (although it looks like it, you can NOT change the name "Incoming Connections") |
![]() |
There is now a new icon in your Connections window. |
The system is read to accept an Incoming DCC Call, which could come from Windows95/98.
